999Today food critic Natasha Heard lifts the lid on the villages' two pubs - The Pigs Nose and The Providence Inn.
The Pigs Nose
Well off the beaten track, The Pigs Nose is a real gem of a pub with a lively social scene thanks to the landlord's contacts with the music industry.
This ensures a regular supply of excellent bands and solo musicians - including The Animals, Wishbone Ash and the Yardbirds - who come to perform either in the pub or in the hall next door.
Inside the pub an eclectic mix of curios and bric-a-brac help create a bohemian atmosphere that is warm and welcoming.
Real ale is served straight from the barrel and Carlo, the Italian chef, provides a varied menu of good home-made food at a reasonable prices.
The Pigs Nose is Devon's most southerly pub and a perfect base from which to explore the spectacular coastal or inland footpaths.
In winter the pub is closed Sunday evenings and all day Monday.

The Providence Inn
The 'Provi' - as it's affectionately known by its locals - has built an enviable reputation for excellent food and a good selection of real ales and wine.
The comprehensive menu is based on locally produced food and includes a good vegetarian selection.
The Sunday roast - at the special price of £12 for two people - is popular and bookings are advised.
In winter the log fire provides a warm welcome, meanwhile in summer the views from the beer garden over the valley to the sea are hard to beat.
The pub is open every day throughout the year and food is served between 12pm-2pm and 6pm-9pm. There are two rooms available to let, both en-suite.
